Upcoming: Musical Theater Class!

If you've ever landed a role in a production before, you know the thrill that comes with the cast list announcements, and the excitement with which receive your script and score, and the subsequent vim and vigor that pervades your entire being as the rehearsal process begins. You've just nailed your audition and landed a role - is there anything in the world you can't do?!

Then maybe, a few weeks/months down the road, you hit some creative roadblocks. Maybe a certain song isn't settling into your voice very well. Maybe you're struggling with how to approach your monologue. Maybe you're having trouble getting the timing and inflection of your dialogue lines just right. You're unsure of what to do about these things, and you begin to get a little frustrated.

Or, different situation: you head into an audition and completely ace the singing and acting portions, but feel totally un-confident during the dance call. You're not sure what the steps are or what the choreographer is asking. You leave the audition feeling that it's time you get some basic dance skills under your belt, but you're not sure where to start.

If you've ever found yourself in one of these situations, or you've landed a role in a show and you're feeling completely daunted by all the stuff you have to learn, or if you're simply looking for some new tools, skills, and solutions to add to your creative tool belt, then look no further! Our all-new, upcoming MUSICAL THEATER CLASS is for you!

Starting Friday, February 10, we are rolling out a brand-new, five-session program that will discuss all of these things and more! Throughout the course, we will delve into topics such as:

- How to approach new songs and monologues. Where should you start? What should be the first thing you do when you've got a new piece on your hands? What are the essential steps in the process? And how do you go beyond just learning and memorizing the notes/words, and really start to embody your character? How far in advance of the show should your material be memorized?

- Acting improvisation. Being able to think creatively on your feet is an essential skill for any actor, and improv is the best way to strengthen it. Plus, improv is oh-so-fun!

- Character development. When you've got a brand new character on your hands, how do you begin to discover and develop who that person is? How is your interpretation of Character X different from another actor's interpretation? What aspects should be present in Character X regardless of who is portraying him/her, and how do you go about deciding this?

- Scene development. What are the necessary elements to a scene? How do you work with other actors to create a scene that include these elements, and that delivers the right message to the audience?

- Basic dance skills. Having some basic steps and movements in your repertoire is essential if you want to audition for a show with a dance call. We'll learn what the most basic and necessary ones are, and show you how to practice them.

We'll discuss all of these things and more! Here are the when/where details for the class:
