The Fourth Annual Rising Stars Camp!
Last week (July 20-24) was the fourth annual Rising Stars Camp! We had a great program this year and a really enthusiastic and hard-working group of campers. Everyone, staff and campers alike, had a blast, and we couldn't have asked for a more solid final performance on Friday night.
The campers learned a lot this week about singing and vocal technique, and also about working as a team. Their great focus meant that we had some very productive and fun rehearsals!
Our program this year was entitled, "Let's Get Down to Business." Lest you think this makes our camp sound boring, let me enlighten you. That phrase is the very first line in I'll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan, which we programmed because 1) we love Disney a little too shamelessly and 2) it's an awesome song.
The official camp phots (taken at Friday morning's dress rehearsal) will be released some time next week, but in the meantime we'd like to share several photos from our rehearsals!
On Monday, we started our day with music rehearsals for our opening and closing numbers, Oh The Thinks You Can Think and Green Eggs and Ham, both from Seussical the Musical. Then Ashley, our choreographer, taught the campers the sweet dance moves to these songs. With these super-upbeat songs and the constant moving involved in their choreography, I don't think I can picture a more high-energy day than this.
On Tuesday, it was a million zillion degrees, so we took a sprinkler break during lunch to cool off!
We also began rehearsals for some of our smaller numbers, including All For the Best from Godspell and our Wizard of Oz medley.
When the campers weren't rehearsing, they were busy crafting! Each camper made an animal that they used in I Just Can't Wait To Be King.
